John Thompson CIMA®, CPWA®
Private Wealth Advisor / Owner
I have been a Financial Advisor to high-net-worth individuals and families for over 20 years. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working closely with entrepreneurs and families, assisting them with various financial objectives such as estate & legacy planning, asset protection, selling a business, tax planning, retirement cash flow solutions, and more.
In 2008, I achieved the Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) Certification. This prestigious certification, administered by the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania under the oversight of the Investments & Wealth Institute, covers a wide range of topics including investment policy, asset allocation, risk management, tax efficiency, alternative investments, international financial markets, measuring portfolio returns, and due diligence of professional investment managers.
Furthermore, in 2013, I earned the Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) Certification. This certification, administered by the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago and the Investments & Wealth Institute, encompasses areas such as tax planning, estate planning, asset protection planning, transaction planning, planning for business owners and executives, private equity, and multi-generation wealth education.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I have actively engaged in community service activities. I served on the City of Jacksonville Retirement (Pension) Reform Special Task Force from 2013 to 2014. Additionally, I had the privilege of being the co-chairman of the Transition Team Pension Committee for the Mayor of Jacksonville in 2011. Over a span of four years and three different committees, my involvement in addressing the city's pension liability crossed party lines, and I authored a transition report for the mayor outlining potential solutions for consideration.
Over the years, I have been a Co-Founder of ImpactJax which is the young professional arm of the Jax Chamber of Commerce, I served on the boards of Dreams Come True, First Coast Family Center, Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the River Club, Jacksonville Community Council (JCCI) and Jacksonville Children’s Chorus. I am a 2011 graduate of Leadership Jacksonville, and carry the ideals of community trusteeship with me as a result of this experience.
As a graduate of the University of Florida and a native of Jacksonville, my personal life is centered around my family. We reside in the neighborhood I grew up in and our children attend the same schools I attended, albeit with much more success than me. I met my wife, Renee, who is also a native of Jacksonville, at the downtown YMCA in 2003 while exercising on an elliptical machine after work. We tied the knot in 2005, and our focus has always been on our three wonderful children and our two beloved dogs, Buddy, a Westie, and Teddy, a Goldendoodle. Spending quality family time, traveling and enjoying the beauty of Northeast Florida are cherished aspects of our lives.
